This week in Ukrainian markets is characterized by falling prices for tomatoes, according to EastFruit experts. Market participants explain their lower cost by the fact that tomatoes from the open ground of the southern regions began to go on sale.
In this situation, the country's greenhouses faced the need to lower selling prices to 22-24 UAH / kg (0.85-0.93 dollars / kg), which is on average 14% cheaper than in the last days of the last working week.
Vegetables from greenhouses and open ground began to arrive on the shelves at prices that ranged from 15-20 UAH / kg (0.58-0.77 dollars / kg).
Project experts are of the opinion that prices fell due to mass harvesting of greenhouse and ground tomatoes in farms in the South of Ukraine. It is noteworthy that today almost all grown tomatoes are sold domestically.
Despite the abundance of the Ukrainian product, there are still imported goods from Turkey and Poland on the market, which also affects prices. At the same time, the quality of Turkish goods often causes customer complaints.
The prices of imported tomatoes also decreased. Now imported tomato is sold at 18 UAH / kg (0.70 dollars / kg), which is 32% cheaper than last week. Even despite the cost reduction, tomatoes now cost 3 times more than on the same date in 2018.
