Global warming on the planet has reduced soybean yields. In such conditions, farmers are massively returning to cultivating undeservedly forgotten peas, according to Academician of the NAAS Nikolay Roik.
According to him, earlier 1.7 million was allocated for peas. In addition, peas were valued as the best predecessor for winter wheat. Pea frees the earth early, having previously accumulated a lot of nitrogen in the roots, but does not have time to use its entire supply and it remains in the soil. Since crop rotation gives up to 60% of the crop yield, it is necessary to revise the structure of sown areas in favor of peas.
According to the Ministry of Agrarian Policy, in 2017, 414 thousand hectares were sown with peas, and in 2018 - 423 thousand hectares, which is a record for the whole time of Independence of Ukraine. Moreover, the largest areas under peas are concentrated in the southern regions, except for Kherson, where the spread of irrigation systems makes it possible to grow large crops of soybeans. If you look at the gross harvest of peas, then Zaporizhzhya region will be the leader in it.In the steppe zone, pea productivity is 2 t / ha. In the north of the country and in the western regions, this culture is characterized by even more generous crops, says Nikolai Roik.
