Early varieties of cherries were severely frozen, as in April the air temperature dropped to -4 ° С. This affected later varieties. There are trees that are generally fruitless, although seasonality is not typical for cherries, Senin said.

As the specialist noted, rains severely damaged trees of the Valery Chkalov variety. During May, a 1.5-month rainfall occurred. Due to downpours in the trees, fruit rot developed and aphids settled.

The weather conditions of this spring also had positive aspects. The berries are well saturated with moisture, they are juicy and large. In this regard, the current cherry has better qualities than last year, Senin noted.

Harvesting Melitopol early berries will continue until the end of this month. And later varieties will finish in 10 days.

According to Vladimir Senin, usually they get excellent harvest from Francis trees. But this year, the red-yellow berries of this variety will practically not be on sale, as it has frozen out, which can not be said about the "Melitopol black". The latter will be widely represented on the Ukrainian market.

Currently, in the wholesale markets of Melitopol cherries are sold at a price of 20-25 UAH / kg. In the ranks of the Zaporozhye Covered Market, berries from Melitopol are already sold at 28-70 UAH / kg. The berry that was collected at the dachas costs less - 23 UAH / kg.
