Hot weather, which was established after long rains, had a negative impact on the fields of winter wheat and rapeseed in the Sumy region.
Due to prolonged high air temperatures, moisture from the soil quickly evaporated. It is almost no longer in the basal zone, as a result of which the crops of cultivated plants are steadily losing their color and turgor.
2 mm of precipitation fell several days quickly gave way to heat. Because of the rains, a desiccation effect was created, since the evaporation of moisture accelerated and the leaves dried out even more.
Currently grown winter wheat is in the phase of milk ripeness. If the weather is hot, grain loading may be disturbed.
If earlier by the general condition of plants and crops it was possible to predict a yield of about 6 tons or more, now due to the heat and lack of moisture, the actual yield can significantly decrease. The rapeseed plants have already fallen leaves and they dry up. Harvesting will begin in one to two weeks, the agronomists summarize.
Earlier it was reported that agrarians of the Vinnitsa region expect a large rape crop. Director of the Khmelnik branch (NIBULON) Alexander Krolitsky from the village of Shirokaya Greblya, Khmelnytsky district, Vinnitsa region, said that this year 278 hectares of winter rape are cultivated, and in the future its area will increase to 300-350 hectares.
