Kherson region is the main supplier of vegetables in Ukraine. The region is considered the main producer of some vegetables of borscht set: onion, tomato, pepper.
Now in the Kherson region in the midst of harvesting vegetables. tons of vegetables, as reported by the press service of the Department of Agro-Industrial Development of KHOA.
So, as of September 3 of the current year in the region collected:
- onions - 76.0 thousand tons;
- carrots - 31.0 thousand tons;
- beets - 15.0 thousand tons;
- Tomatoes - 326.0 thousand tons.
This year agricultural producers of the region planted 22 thousand hectares of potatoes - 1.9 thousand hectares less than in 2018. The average potato yield is now fixed at 110.1 c / ha. (in 2018 it was 125.4 q / ha). It is expected to obtain potatoes up to 242 thousand tons, which is 54 thousand tons less than last year.
“Recall that the Kherson region is a zone of risky agriculture: this year, when forming the potato crop, there were high temperatures that did not allow the formation of a sufficient number of tubers, which led to a shortage of crop.
Also, one of the reasons for the shortage of crops was the flooding of areas due to bad weather. The region as a whole produces early products that are not suitable for winter storage. For winter use, potatoes are imported to the region from other regions, ”the report says.
4.8 thousand hectares were sown this year, which is 4% more than last year. In 2018, the gross harvest of onions amounted to 95 thousand tons with a yield of 204 c / ha. Onion harvesting is ongoing.
As of September 3, 76 thousand tons of onions were harvested in the region, with an average yield of 209 c / ha. Relative to other vegetables of borscht set, in general, the sown area almost does not change from year to year.
