China plans to bring environmentally friendly agrochemicals to the Kenyan market, said Dong Qingli of the China International Trade Facilitation Council (CCPIT) this Thursday.
Dong Qingli told the regional agricultural forum in Nairobi that China has developed new solutions that can effectively combat local pests, which will contribute to improving food security in the country.
“The goal is to increase crop yields to promote Kenya’s local agricultural sector,” Dong said at the 5th China International Agricultural Chemistry and Plant Protection Exhibition CAC Africa Summit in Nairobi.
The two-day event was organized by the CCPIT Chemical Industry Subcommittee (CCPIT CHEM) in collaboration with the Egerton University of Kenya and was attended by pesticide management bodies and associations from Kenya, China, Tanzania and Ethiopia. The conference was attended by about 26 exhibitors from China, India and Kenya, working in the pesticides, fertilizers and logistics sectors.
Dong said China is rapidly introducing cleaner and smarter production, which will lead to the sustainable development of high-quality, environmentally friendly and efficient agrochemicals for the Kenyan and African agricultural sectors.
He said that in order to intensify Sino-African cooperation, Chinese agrochemical producers seek to accelerate the growth of the agricultural sector on the continent. Dong noted that Kenya remains a key partner of China, because it is the gateway to East Africa.
Dong showed that China is the leading pesticide producer in the world and is currently exporting it to more than 170 countries and regions, which will lead to significant interaction between the agrochemical industries of China and Africa.
