In Ukraine, farmers managed to keep the number of pigs at the level of 2017.
The Ukrainian Pig Breeders Association reports that for the three quarters of 2018, 3.43 million pigs are kept at agricultural enterprises. Almost the same was in October last year.
Livestock growth was shown by pig farms in Lviv, Ivano-Frankivsk, Ternopol and Khmelnitsky regions. In total, farmers in these areas increased the number of animals by 45 thousand heads. The number of pigs in the Kharkov region was replenished by 38 thousand or 66%. Thanks to farmers of the above-mentioned regions, Ukrainian pig breeding managed not to go negative this year. The Association notes that more than half of the regions were able to keep the livestock at the level of last year. In the rest, the reduction occurred at the level of 10%. The only exceptions were Rivne and Odessa region. But if in the Rivne region the number of pigs decreased almost imperceptibly for general statistics - minus 17% or six thousand heads, then in the Odessa region the decrease is much more noticeable. Here, farmers raised one third fewer pigs than last year, that is, 38 thousand.
