Argentina's National Agro-Food Health and Quality Service (Senasa) published Resolution 1033/2019 in the Official Gazette, which extends the phytosanitary emergency to the locust plague, commonly known as the South American locust (Schistocerca cancellata), until August 31, 2021. Emergency measures were taken July 2017
With this new solution, the exclusive use of insecticides for pest control has been expanded: cypermethrin, deltamethrin, lambda-cygalotrin, diflubenzuron and fipronil. The same document also authorized the use of active ingredients for the control of the pest "Tucura Quebrachera" (Tropidacris collaris).
This measure was argued by "a new demographic explosion of the South American locust plague in the Republic of Paraguay, which reached Argentina, dispersed in the form of sleeves in the areas of the Argentinean northeast and the Argentinean northwest of our country."

“And typically, the distribution of this insect was limited to the provinces of Santiago del Estero and Chaco. Recent catches indicate that the plague spread to the provinces of Santa Fe, from Entre Rios and San Luis, as well as to the city of Pergamino in the province of Buenos Aires. ”
Regarding Tucura, it was stated that “during 2018 and during 2019 there was a significant increase in the number of plague in the provinces of Cordoba, Santiago del Estero, Santa Fe, Catamarca del Chaco and Salta, resulting in "soybean, corn, cotton and sorghum crops, as well as local forests and pastures were damaged."
“Any person responsible or responsible for farms and / or livestock production should allow official agents to exercise control over the established activities,” Senasa said.
