Ukrainian farmers immediately launch two unusual projects for raising free range chickens. Birds will live right in the middle of the amaranth field, as reported by the chairman of the Association of Amaranth and Amaranth Producers Alexander Duda.
To start the project, two farms were found on the territory of which free-range birds will be raised this year. Both farms are located in the Dnipropetrovsk region. One of them is engaged in the production of organic products. This is the company "UkrBioLend."
It is noted that the meat of chickens who consumed amaranth greens or its cake has very good taste and nutritional qualities. The process of raising chickens in amaranth thickets consists of several stages. First, birds are brought into the field. Mobile houses are being built for them. When the plants become large enough, chickens are taken to the crops.Hens go on plantations, eat weed grasses, collect insects, eat up the lower leaves of amaranth. Birds not only clean the area from weeds, but also fertilize the soil with droppings. Amaranth crops protect chickens from birds of prey.
Organic farms that do not have their own livestock complex and use only plant-based organic fertilizers, consider getting chicken droppings an important factor in maintaining soil fertility and crop yields.
Such farms get a good harvest of commercial amaranth, since panicles with seeds grow high and chickens do not harm them. As a result, from the combination of growing amaranth and chickens, the output is: chicken eggs and high-quality meat, organic fertilizers for the field and amaranth seeds. The technology is not simple (it is necessary to transport feed, water, remove eggs from the field, move poultry houses, move fences, monitor predators of all kinds, etc.) - it requires a lot of labor, but there is a stable demand for this product and the profitability of its production is high, summed up Alexander Duda.
