According to analysts at the EastFruit project, last week the tomato supply was significantly reduced, which gave prices a boost.
The main reason for this situation was the current heat and cool weather in the early days of summer, which hinders the harvesting of vegetables. Demand for tomatoes against the background of very limited supplies of tomatoes is still quite high, which makes it possible for farmers to raise prices for their products.
Currently, large greenhouse farms have inflated selling prices and today they offer tomatoes at 28-30 UAH / kg (1.07-1.14 dollars / kg), which is 26% more expensive than at the end of last week.
Vegetables grown in film greenhouses come to the shelves at 23-25 UAH / kg (0.88-0.95 dollars / kg), which is one and a half times more expensive than a week earlier. Traders, on the other hand, notice that despite the rise in price, the sales rate of tomatoes remains high.
It is noteworthy that at present, tomatoes grown in film greenhouses are sold at Ukrainian markets 2 times more expensive than on the same date in 2018, and greenhouse tomatoes are sold at a price that is 1.7 times more than last year .
Earlier it was reported that this spring Ukraine imported all vegetables of "borscht set" in record quantities.
